Hydrogel Dressings in Wound Care: When Should They Be Used?

Maintaining proper moisture is one of the key factors that helps wounds heal faster and reduces scarring.

Contrary to the traditional view that wounds should be kept dry, modern wound-care research shows that a moderately moist environment promotes epithelialization, reduces pain, and limits the hard scab formation that can impede healing.

How hydrogel works

Hydrogel dressings are mainly composed of water (usually over 70%) combined with moisture-retaining polymers, capable of hydrating dry wounds while absorbing light exudate from weeping wounds. Their transparent or semi-transparent structure also lets healthcare staff monitor wound progress without frequent dressing changes.

This type of dressing is typically indicated for chronic wounds, pressure ulcers, mild to moderate burns, and post-surgical wounds at risk of drying and cracking. Use should be guided by healthcare staff, especially for infected wounds or wounds showing unusual signs.

Jianzhi Medical currently distributes the Leningkang® (JA Biotech) hydrogel dressing line in the Vietnamese market, serving the needs of medical facilities and specialized wound-care units.
